CUSTOM DESIGN
Our Custom Design process is tailored to meet your specific needs. We work with you every step of the way, from start to finish.
Consultation
The process begins with you visiting us in the store by walk-in or appointment. We want this to be an enjoyable experience and for you to leave the store knowing you're going to get a piece of jewelry you'll love for years to come. We encourage customers to come in with their own ideas, pictures, and sketches to help the designers pin point what elements they are looking for. We can offer you design advice and education on different metals if you wish. We can also work to find stones that fit your vision as well as your budget.
Design
We can help you by going through your ideas and examples to create your perfect design. The designer can then create the design with a few different variations of the look you envision. The design will be created with our CAD (computer aided design) software. This is an incredible software. If you are unfamiliar with the process, it allows the designer to create a piece of jewelry on the computer and then make a render for the customer to see. The render offers a picture-realistic photo of how the final piece will look before it's actually created. A lot of people have trouble visualizing the final product, but having a render takes away uncertainty to make sure you're creating a piece you'll love in the end. We are 100% committed to quality standards and have invested in the most advanced jewelry technology. Our custom jewelry is made one piece at a time, with attention to every detail.
Wax Carving
Before the piece is cast in metal, a master wax model must be made. The wax is milled by machines and can also be crafted by hand to give your piece a personal touch. Once the wax is completed, it is shown to you for your approval. From this point on the piece begins to take shape because you have an actual piece to touch and feel.
Casting
After the wax has been approved, the piece is then cast in your choice of metal. Castings come out with a smooth, matte finish. It is then up to the jeweler to do an extensive amount of handwork to bring out the perfect finish of the gold, platinum or palladium. Then, the piece is tumbled to shine even the hardest to reach places.
Fabrication
Some of the pieces we create have different parts that must be assembled. These parts start out as either sheet, bar stock, or wire. This process is difficult & time consuming, but the quality of the work is bar none. Filligree can be added in the fabrication process. Filligree is process of curling, twisting, and bending fine metal wire by hand. It takes many years to master, but it brings a great element of design to the piece.
Setting
This is the part of the process that makes your piece start to sparkle. Rick has been setting stones for over 28 years now. None of our stones are ever cast in the metal, this is a process used by companies mass producing low quality work. Rick works under a bench microscope to set each stone individually. All our stones are hand-selected and each piece is designed for the exact stone measurements, ensuring a perfect design without gaps, and attention to secure settings for some of the most rare and beautiful diamonds and gems.
Hand Engraving
Many of the piece we create have hand engraving. Hand engraving is not something that can be preformed by just any jeweler. Rick performs his hand engraving under a powerful microscope with specially prepared, sharpened gravers. The pattern of the design takes creative thought by the engraver as well as exceptional focus and skill.
Finish
At this point, Rick will double check his work and give the piece a final polish ensuring that you will be completely satisfied when the piece is presented to you!
