Baselworld 2014

          Spring is here! Bare trees are slowly adorning themselves with lush greenery, dried and brown leaves are blowing away for good, and jewelry cases around the world are filling up with new treasures. An embodiment of this seasonal theme of renewal, Baselworld 2014 has just started in Basel, Switzerland. Baselworld is a globally renowned, week long jewelry and watch extravaganza where the jewelry industry’s most prominent players unveil their most precious creations. Attracting more than 100,000 visitors each year, this event is “where innovations and novelties make their first public appearances, trends are set, and extensive business is done.”[1] What makes this show remarkable is the exhibitors that choose to attend. Some of the world’s most eminent brands including Graff Diamonds, Patek Phillipe, and Fabergé reveal exclusive masterpieces in elaborate exhibits costing upwards of $20 million. If you’re in the market for a new watch, for example, check out Graff Diamonds’ latest design (pictured left). This $55 million dollar watch features 110 carats of fancy colored diamonds – and it tells time!
