Young mathematician Marcel Tolkowsky’s original work on the mathematical formula for maximizing reflection and refraction of light (think: sparkle factor ✨) of diamonds has been left significantly unchanged in the 100 years since he published his work. Initially intended as a favor for his diamond-dealing uncle, the 19-year-old mathematician went on to write his PHD thesis on this work.
